“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart on Monday called out President Joe Biden for pardoning son Hunter Biden despite repeatedly vowing not to do so out of respect for the rule of law.
“Hypocrisy isn’t illegal. Nor is it particularly unusual in politics,” he pointed out. “The problem is the rest of the Democrats made Biden’s pledge to not pardon Hunter the foundation of their defense of America, this great experiment.”
Stewart rolled footage of Democratic figures hailing Biden’s promise not to pardon his son as proof that they’re the party that respects the rule of law ― unlike Republicans and President-elect Donald Trump.
“Now, look at the dance Democrats have to do,” he said, and played clips of figures on the left awkwardly defending Biden’s decision to pardon his son.
Democrats, he said, called the Hunter Biden case a reason for Americans to have faith in a justice system that applies to everyone, only for it to backfire with the pardon.
“At every turn, Democrats keep getting caught creating a purity test for a system that they can’t seem to pass themselves,” Stewart said.
It’s not just the pardon.
Stewart pointed to multiple other examples where Biden slammed Trump on an issue, only to be forced to backtrack later, including the mishandling of classified documents, relations with Saudi Arabia, and the treatment of asylum-seekers.
He played clips of Biden attempting to take the high moral ground over Trump on those issues, followed by clips of Biden reversing course.
Stewart concluded:
“Rules, loopholes and norms: The distance between the systems Democrats say they are revering and the one that they’re using when they need to is why people think it’s rigged. Use the rules. Use the loopholes. Fuck the norms. But also use it to help the people, not just those people related to you. All of us are somebody’s son or somebody’s daughter and we all need that break, too.”
